Speaker: Ryan Bond

Topic: “Human, Not Resources”

Description: Since the earliest times, we humans have organized ourselves to improve our health, wellness and survivability. We have created organizations to work for us, ensuring we have access to stability, care, and prosperity. As our circumstances changed from “survive” to “thrive,” so did our relationship to the organizations we created:  we made ourselves into resources, and the results speak for themselves. We are seeing record levels of disengagement in the workplace, growing inequality in our society, crippling anxiety in our mental health, rampant mistrust in our relationships, and entrenched conflict everywhere. Ironically, our efforts to thrive have stifled the very human components of a fulfilling and meaningful workplace: creativity, initiative and connection. The great news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. The people of Human Resources can lead the way in re-humanizing the experience of work. Work can be a place of human flourishing. We can help people engage the fullness of their humanity, not only to improve organizational culture and outcomes, but to send everyone home better than they arrived. It’s important to note that policy and programs aren't the path forward: this change requires unleashing the power of the unlimited human resources of love, forgiveness, and compassion -- in our organizations. Join Ryan Bond, Chief People Officer at Thrive Restaurant Group, to learn some simple ways to re-humanize the experience of work for you and your team. Workshop learning objectives include: Understand the evolution of work, organizations, and the forces that shaped modern business thinking; Compare the effects of love and fear on the brain and the human implications; Understand the power of experiences to create emotions, beliefs, and behaviors; Explore the differences between a culture of responsibility and a culture of accountability (and their results); Evaluate how job design can hinder or unleash human potential, and; Apply a relational lens to the systems design, leadership strategies, productivity, and policy creation.

Bio:  Ryan is a people optimist. He believes that people want to do work that matters, in a healthy and fulfilling way -- and that organizations are uniquely positioned to help create that type of experience. Drawing from his background in business leadership, consulting and theater, Ryan helps leaders develop their potential, their work environment, and the way their work gets done with others. He’s a student of human relationships, learning, change and design. Ryan holds a Master's degree in Organizational Development, and serves on the board of the People Operations Society. As  the Chief People Officer at Thrive Restaurant Group which employs over 5,000 team members across 12 states and 5 brands, Ryan relishes the opportunity to love so many people every day.
